Contra is just one of many Konami franchises that haven't
really had a fair shake lately, but that might be about to change. Starting
tomorrow, Contra Returns. As a mobile title, and it's in beta, but it
definitely returns. In case the name is a little confusing, Contra Returns is a
return to the more classic shooter gameplay of the original Contra series on
the NES. Expect remade levels that'll be familiar from the 1987 classic game as
well as a brand new story with a whole bunch of new characters--45 to be exact.
It seems like Contra Returns includes a huge roster of characters that you
unlock as the game progresses. You start off with boring old Bill Rizer before
unlocking characters from all throughout the Contra franchise. There are also a
bunch of brand new characters totally new to Contra, such as Han Feng the
Federation agent, and Snow Bear, who is a giant gun-wielding polar bear.
This tier list covers all of the characters that are
available at launch, so we’ll probably be changing it as and when new fighters
are added. But for now, here’s our list of the best characters in Contra
Returns. Trading arcade joysticks for mobile touchscreens, players are able to
lead the heroes of the Contra army to fight against the alien resistance raging
across Earth in this classic platform shoot-‘em-up. Contra Returns offers a
variety of new game modes that both first-time players and fans of the classic
Contra series can enjoy:
One-life Mode: The classic gameplay experience where players
test their skills and relive classic Contra nostalgia with challenging twists.
Underwater 8: An eight level co-op gauntlet to attempt
different levels at varying stages of difficulty.
Classic Team: Work together to clear all story stages and
earn epic rewards in this action-packed classic co-op adventure.
Ultimate Tournament: Tournament-style gameplay pitting
players against each other online to determine the ultimate champion.
PVP Modes: A series of all-new ways to play Contra online
with Ranked Match, 1v1 Warm up, 1v1 Hero Battlefield, 3v3 Fort Battle, and 2v2
Ultra Rapid Fire.
